Just a Small Town

Journey have shaped the way that generations view rock music. Now, with the release of their new album, Generations, on October 4th, Journey have refocused the way they view rock music.

Generations is an album that capsulizes more than 30 years of history and sales in excess of 75 million albums, into 70-minutes of unadulterated faith in the rejuvenating powers of rock ‘n’ roll. There’s a familiarity that even the most casual Journey fan will embrace, and a musical and spiritual awakening that longtime fans will abandon themselves to.

25 Years of the New World Order

After 25 years of leading rock’s industrial revolution, Al Jourgensen of Ministry is fired up and ready to release Rantology on Sanctuary Records September 27, 2005. The 25th anniversary collection is Mr. Jourgensen’s personal interpretation and reflection upon the music his iconic band has created over the years. Featuring 14 classic tracks hand-picked, produced and remixed by Jourgensen, over half of the collection has been updated, reworked, and reanimated by Jourgensen. In addition, the CD features three live tracks along with a new never-heard-before song titled “The Great Satan,” giving listeners a sneak preview of the upcoming studio album due out in April 2006.

Forming Ministry in Chicago in 1980, Al Jourgensen unwittingly kicked off what would become a pivotal turning point in music, coined “industrial." As the genre slowly gathered an underground following, Ministry’s The Mind is a Terrible Thing To Taste and The Land of Rape and Honey quietly went Gold and the mainstream finally began taking notice. However, it was the Gulf War and President Bush in the White House that truly led Ministry to find its muse, where their open expression of rage resonated loud and clear with music fans. Pslam 69 went Platinum and industrial bands popped up everywhere, with MTV and radio stations quickly jumping on board. Today, with more than 10 albums to its name and bands the likes of Nine Inch Nails and Rob Zombie citing Al Jourgensen’s influence, Ministry is the pre-eminent industrial rock band.

He's Not on His Way Down Anymore

Where has Rob Dickinson been for the five years since his ground-breaking band The Catherine Wheel stopped making records? The answers, as we shall see, might prove elusive. The curious world of Mr. Dickinson, unfolds.

The Catherine Wheel was a cool band. In Rob Dickinson they possessed a songwriter and lyricist of rare and sometimes audacious talent. Never was a band so influential and yet so invisible. They quietly unleashed 6 brilliant albums all an artistic development of the last and all reflecting a musical force that could crush any band that dared share a stage - ask Radiohead or The Smashing Pumpkins about that.

Whatever merit his past with the band may confer on him, Dickinson’s inevitable stardom would appear to be as a solo artist with a breathtaking new collection of music celebrating the extremes of the human spirit. If ever a slice of modern rock music deserved the adjective’ deep’, Fresh Wine for the Horses is it.

God of the Low End

The band GZR, led by legendary Black Sabbath bass guitarist and lyricist Geezer Butler, new studio album Ohmwork is in stores now through Sanctuary Records. Ohmwork is Butler’s first album in eight years. Butler is joined by vocalist Clark Brown and guitarist Pedro Howse, his longtime collaborators, and new drummer Chad Smith.

A potent, tangible band dynamic is crucial for Butler. He does not ever want an album credited to "Geezer Butler" when it is a true band effort. Butler is proud of the fact that GZR's music appeals to both young metal fans as well as Black Sabbath fans. He attributes this fact about cross-generational appeal to heavy metal's very essence. Rumors are floating that GZR may tour with Tony Iommi in the Fall 2005.

Review and giveaways copies available. Check out the assets page below for music, pictures and info:

Texan Pride

Texas is a source of immeasurable pride for those who were born and bred there, including the young shredders of A Dozen Furies.

Vocalist Bucky Garrett's melodic Mike Patton croon often careens without warning into a blistering death howl, supplying an edge that more than matches the compositional schizophrenia on ADF’s debut full-length A Concept From Fire, (in stores 9.13) an explosive collection of propulsive metalcore harmonies, visceral death-derived change-ups, and memorable, gripping hooks that refuse to pander.

ADF is hauling an RV along for their coming-out party on the biggest metal tour in the world this summer, Ozz-Fest.

Voice of a Generation Returns

If I told you about an individual whose musical odyssey included starting a band in the late ’60s that opened six shows for the MC5 and the Stooges and also produced some of the most seminal artists of our time, including Bad Brains, Suicide, Iggy Pop and Guided by Voices, you would likely say that this person sounded like one the coolest people in the world. Now suppose this same person rounded out his resume with a decade-long stint in one of the most influential rock groups of the’70s and ‘80s, selling over 25 million albums and spawning legions of imitators twenty years later; did more board work for some of today’s most lauded bands, including Weezer, Le Tigre, Mercury Rev and No Doubt; AND a gig at a major label working as a VP of A&R where in a year’s time he attended only one meeting -- you might think this unnamed person was a pathological liar - and that’s not even taking into account marrying a supermodel, a cameo in a John Waters film, and working with Andy Warhol. Ladies and gentlemen meet Ric Ocasek.

When Ric Ocasek and The Cars self-titled debut dropped in 1978 on Elektra, The Cars were already an established Boston band. Over the next ten years they would go on to release six albums, had many top 10 hits and sold over 25 million albums.

In addition to releasing Ric’s sixth solo album Nexterday (out September 27, 2005) the label is distributing Ocasek’s imprint, Inverse Records.

Review copies now available, assets available below, Ric may be available for interviews-Get Twisted!!!
